Self-care is vital for our overall well-being. This workshop focuses on providing the knowledge and skills to help you develop a self-care plan. Learn how self-care activities can help you cope with stress and improve your mental, emotional, and physical health.

Building Resiliency: Managing the Impact of Prolonged Stress During COVID-19

On May 28, 2020, EveryMind hosted a virtual Mental Wellness Town Hall focused on the importance of resiliency as we navigate during difficult times.

Our distinguished panel of contributors offered tips and strategies as well as resources available to support those who are struggling or just need a little extra help.

EveryMind stands with our community in grief and anger over the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Finan Berhe and so many other members of our Black community.  Black Lives Matter.

Mental wellness for everyone is impossible without equity and justice. EveryMind will continue to work to ensure that EVERY individual is empowered to reach optimal mental wellness, and to be a part of the solution to build a community that is inclusive, welcoming and safe for all.

We know mental wellness is critical to each person’s ability to thrive, feel connected to others and have a sense of safety and wellness. We see and understand the stress and trauma caused by the impact of racism in our work every day.

EveryMind is committed to being a part of the solution to end systemic racism and help create a community based on equity and justice. We also know simply stating our commitment isn’t enough. We need to put our words into action.

Follow Up Conversations to Angst Screening

In response to your feedback, EveryMind has invited Dr. William Stixrud and Ned Johnson, authors of The Self-Driven Child, to return to answer the questions they couldn’t get to during the panel discussion following the screening of Angst.

We will hold two follow up discussions:

For Parents – May 14, 2020 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm

For Educators – May 20, 2020 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm (Christina Conolly from Montgomery County Public Schools will also be available to answer questions during the educators discussion)

 

As with the film screening, a link to join the conversation will be sent 24 hours prior to the start of the event.

Participation in each discussion will be limited, so sign up today!  If there is a huge demand, we will start a waitlist and schedule additional future conversations.


COVID-19 – Coping with Anxiety and Stress

As we navigate this unprecedented crisis, its imperative that we tend to our mental well-being.  Concerns for our health and the health of our loved ones, a stream of sometimes confusing and contradictory information, disruptions to routines, worry about the impact on personal finances and uncertainty about how and when life will return to some semblance of normal – these are just a few ways COVID-19 has impacted our mental health.

During this time of heightened anxiety, we know that you or a loved one may need someone to talk to.  Please know that our phone, text and chat call specialists are available 24/7 to listen and provide support.

This service is free and open to all members of our community. You do not have to be in crisis to connect with us. Reach out even if you are just looking for ways to support someone you are concerned about.

Angst: Virtual Film Screening and Panel Discussion

On April 23, 2020, EveryMind, in collaboration with Adventist HealthCare, Holy Cross Health, MedStar Montgomery, Suburban Hospital and Montgomery County Public Schools, hosted a online screening of the film Angst, followed by a virtual panel discussion with experts in the field of anxiety management and treatment.  The panel was facilitated by Ned Johnson and William Stixrud, authors of “The Self-Driven Child.

This documentary is designed to raise awareness around anxiety.  The film includes interviews with kids, teens, educators, experts, parents and a very special interview with Michael Phelps.  The goal is to help people identify and understand the symptoms of anxiety and encourage them to reach out for help.

Make A Difference Program

EveryMind’s Hotline Volunteer, Laurie Calder, and Human Resources Director, Kelly Collins, were guests on Make a Difference, a program that highlights volunteer opportunities in Montgomery County.

Laurie shared her experiences working on the Hotline in this interview and discusses the rewards and benefits of helping some of our most vulnerable neighbors.  Please take a moment to watch this segment.


2020 Point in Time Count

EveryMind was pleased to participate again this year in the annual Point in Time Count.  This nationwide event during the last two weeks of January helps communities identify and count the number of people experiencing homelessness and living on the streets.  That data is then used to ensure that appropriate and proportionate funding is provided to help those communities deliver much needed services to those living unsheltered.

EveryMind is grateful to the more than 45 volunteers who participated in the event, including Councilmembers Gabe Albornoz, Andrew Friedson, Evan Glass and Craig Rice, as well as Director of Montgomery County Health and Human Services Raymond Crowell.

Sherry S. Hintz Scholarship

EveryMind, in partnership with the Greater Washington Community Foundation, is proud to administer the Sherry S. Hintz Scholarship Fund.   This Fund was created by an anonymous Montgomery County resident in memory of several women in her family who lost their lives to breast cancer.  The Fund provides college scholarship awards to students who have lost a parent or guardian to breast or ovarian cancer.

Awardees of the Hintz Scholarship may receive up to $20,000 per year for as many as four years of undergraduate education.  All applications and attachments must be postmarked by April 9, 2021.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are a resident of Montgomery County, Maryland
  • Are a member of a family with a demonstrated financial need
  • Are a high school junior, senior or a high school graduate under 22 years old
  • Have achieved at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Are involved in a school, community or athletic activity, ideally in a leadership position
  • Have lost a parent or primary guardian to breast or ovarian cancer
  • Wish to attend college
